New Year’s Resolutions

A new year. A new start.

The dictionary defines a ‘New Year’s Resolution’ as ‘a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice from New Year’s Day.’

The problem with promises and resolutions, though, is that they’re so easily broken, no matter how good the intentions behind them.

To combat this I try to make a point of reflecting on where I am and where I want to be on a regular basis throughout the year so that it’s more of a habit than a once yearly sacrifice to the Gods of hope.

Though I’m certainly going to continue to work towards attaining Michelle Obama-esque arms in 2017, my primary goals are a bit broader…

Stop overthinking

Live in the present, not the past

Ensure all self-talk is positive

Refuse to change who I am to please others

Drink more water

Simple and complex in equal measure but with one singular focus – self-love. It’s a cold, harsh world out there which makes it even more important to show kindness and compassion, starting with you!

Let’s make 2017 the year of love!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on resolutions and if you’ve made any for 2017 so please do leave a comment below or get in touch with me on Instagram (@BlondeInGrey) or Twitter (@LauraMcCallen)

  1. My resolutions are:
    1. Try to be kinder… to myself and others
    2. Publish a knitting pattern… because I have been thinking about it for ages and I want to be brave
    3. Take my puppies for longer walks… because it will be good for all of us

Hopefully we can all keep our resolutions!! Happy New Year!!!
