Arriving late the night before in Monterey we didn’t really know what to expect when seeing it in the light of day. Turns out our hotel was right in the heart of things on Cannery Row and just down the block from the main reason we were there – the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
After a delicious, oh-so-healthy breakfast (yum!) we headed under the sea.
Set within the actual Monterey Bay, the Aquarium has the unique advantage of showcasing some of the most amazing exotic and native wildlife. Looking out the windows into the bay you never quite know what you’re going to see!
You also have the advantage of getting up close to adorable fuzzy cuties like this guy!
…I think he heard me.
I could (I did) spend hours watching these guys!
Duh duh. Duh Duh.
Squirt, what are you doing here? Where’s Crush?!
Heading out from the Aquarium we wandered down main street.
Fun fact, the pigeon in this statue was indeed one of the founding fathers!
We had heard that you could see seals in the harbour but though we could hear them they were a bit difficult to see from behind the two fences that have been put in place to keep people away. Still, I can respect the City of Monterey for wanting to give them their peace…even if the seals loudly abuse the privilege by yelling at each other constantly!
Though we hadn’t gotten far in our quest for seals we were rewarded with another otter who was content to swim along beside us as we wandered back to the beach. Bliss!
After a quick lunch stop we set out to keep exploring Big Sur – I was in love and I didn’t want to waste a minute of our time together! More on our afternoon adventures tomorrow!
