For many people the highlight of a trip to Paris is a visit to the Eiffel Tower. But if you want a proper view of the best Paris has to offer you’ll want to head east…
Having been to Paris before I’ve visited the top of the Eiffel Tower and though there’s no doubt the view is dazzling, a view of Paris that doesn’t include the Tower itself feels a bit lacking. So, this time around we decided to skip the hours-long line-ups at the Tower and to instead experience the view from Tour Montparnasse.
Located on the roof of the Montparnasse Tower the 360-degree view of the capital is truly spectacular. A single visit will cost you 15 Euros but I’d highly recommend you pay the extra 5 Euros to get the Day & Night ticket. This ticket allows you two visits to the observation deck in a 24 hour period which means you can see the beauty of the city in every light.
We bought our tickets online in advance which allowed us to sail through the line when we arrived and to get the rooftop observation deck all to ourselves!
The views are beautiful..and the on-site cafe offered some tasty breakfast options. I, of course, went with the healthiest thing on the menu – a freshly-baked waffle drenched in sugar!
News of how great the Tour Montparnasse hasn’t traveled far as, aside from a couple of tour groups who came and went in quick succession, the observation decks were one of the calmest, least congested tourist spots in the whole city. So visit while you can!
We wandered in circles taking in the views from every vantage point.
With one final farewell to Paris’s most famous landmark we headed off on our day (more about that on the blog later this week!) and when the sun started to set we returned to see the city come alive with lights.
Pictures on pictures on pictures…
As it does once an hour on the hour, the Eiffel Tower lit up in a glittering light show which lasted five dazzling minutes. A wonderful end to the day!
