Fun fact about me – I love birthdays.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t necessarily love the ‘getting older’ part but I do thoroughly enjoy being surrounded by people I love, doing things that are out of the ordinary, eating fabulous feasts at every meal…and getting showered in presents, of course! 😉
My birthday was last Wednesday and I kicked off the celebration by continuing a tradition started last year – a Duck & Waffle breakfast with one of the best views in London.
Located on the 40th floor of Salesforce Tower in the City of London, Duck & Waffle is an amazing, airy space with views that rival the delicious menu.
(BTW – Vicky (from Geordie Shore) and Spencer (from Made in Chelsea) sat at this table ^ less than 12 hours later! So close…yet so far…)
I was joined by Mr. Blonde in Grey and my dear friend Angela, who is a fellow Canadian in the UK and all-around wonderfully fun person.
(Can this lighting follow us everywhere, please?!)
In between talking over each other trying to get all caught up and taking in the sunshine and views we managed to order food. I went for the ‘Full Elvis’….and was NOT disappointed. Just look at it!
It’s a waffle…smothered in peanut butter and jam…topped with a mix of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries…which sit beneath caramelized bananas and two heaping dollops of Chantilly cream…all dusted with chocolate and icing sugar. Heaven (and a heart attack) on a plate! (To ensure I kept things balanced you’ll be reassured to know I made sure to order a healthy side of delicious protein-filled bacon!)
Angela went for the smoked haddock gratin:
And Mr. Blonde in Grey went for the classic – the Duck and Waffle:
(The duck is hidden under the egg.)
The food was impeccable as always and so, thoroughly stuffed, we happily sat and chatted about the important, serious things in life…
Just kidding! We mainly talked about Geordie Shore (which is why we were so sad to have almost crossed paths with Vicky!) and gossiped about the latest happenings in our lives. Having known each other for a decade there’s never any shortage of things for Angela and I to chat about. Don’t worry though, we let Mr Blonde in Grey get a word in now and then! The time flew by and before we knew it, it was time to continue on with our days so we took one last look at the view…
Wandered through the bar, soaking in the atmosphere (some of us grumbling about the fact that it was too early for cocktails)…
And then followed the gorgeous mosaic path to the elevator to head back down to earth. I highly recommend Duck & Waffle but please do make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. They can often be booked for weeks (or months) in advance when it comes to dinner but the breakfast crowd is much quieter and it’s easier to get in a bit more last minute (I booked less than a week ahead and got a 9:30am reservation without issue). As it’s known for the duck and waffle surely breakfast is the best time to go anyway?!
We hugged our goodbyes and headed off in various directions. I was off to Primrose Hill for a very important appointment…at Cowshed Spa.
The perfect, blissful start to my birthday! Make sure you check back in tomorrow for a special Tuesday post sharing what else I did to celebrate!
