Dubrovnik: Chasing the Sun

There is a lot to be said for a hotel that puts out a good breakfast spread…

(Missed the first few posts in my Dubrovnik series? Not to worry, you can find them here and here. Go on…we’ll wait for you!

Back? Awesome! As I was saying…)

Hotel Imperial Dubrovnik had one of the BEST breakfast buffets I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Every day of our visit we were offered full hot and cold options including a waffle bar, omelette station, every fruit and cheese imaginable, multiple types of eggs, bacon, sausage and all of it was all you could eat. We were up for the challenge!

With no real plan for the day other than to enjoy the glorious sunshine we set out at a sedate pace (being filled to the brim with breakfast, as it were) to see where the day might take us. We started with the still quiet Old Town…

…then headed for the marina.

Having lazed about on Lokrum the day before we decided to head back to the island to do some proper exploring and stretch our legs. The ferry only departs a couple of times an hour so we spent a little while lounging on the boat, enjoying the gently bobbing waves and making some new friends.

Soon we were on our way…

Once on the island we headed for the highest point to see the view…which was pretty spectacular!

Having climbed all over the island in the worst shoes possible for it (AKA flip flops- wearing the wrong shoes in every situation is kind of a special talent of mine. Try not to be too jealous…) we headed back down to sea level to cool off. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite as blissful as dipping tired feet into ice cold water!

This is me trying to figure out how to get back out…before giving up and enjoying the view from where I stood. By this point the effects of breakfast were beginning to wear off and so we headed back to catch the ferry to the mainland to find food. (There are a few options on Lokrum for lunch and snacks but they’re overpriced and not great quality so it’s worth it to hold out until you’re back in the Old Town.)

After a light lunch we headed back to the hotel for a swim in the pool and an afternoon siesta before heading to Mea Culpa for a carb-coma-inducing dinner that I still have happy dreams about.

Look at that glorious cheese! I can still hear the sizzle…

From there we wandered the empty staircases (because we hadn’t gotten enough of a leg workout earlier? No…because we are gluttons for punishment. Silly, silly gluttons!) and wound our way outside the Old Town walls before heading back to rest up for the next day’s excursion…

Make sure you check in next Thursday to see what happened next!
