When my friend Sophie recently became engaged I knew I wanted to do something extra special to help her celebrate.
So I booked afternoon tea for two at one of London’s most iconic hotels – The Dorchester.
From the moment you walk in you’re hit with the smell of all of the gorgeous blooms that line the Promenade, the most amazing of which adorn the giant urns in the lobby. And I do mean giant!
We were whisked to our table and welcomed by the charming Brough (Pronouned ‘Bruff’ — Me: ‘I’m sorry, how do you spell that?’ Brough: ‘B-r-o-u-g-h. What can I say, when you have an older brother named Ludovic your parents can’t just name you John’ Me: ‘Fair enough…’)
The Dorchester has an amazing tea list so it was a difficult choice but Sophie and I both elected to go with the ‘Paris’ tea as that’s where she got engaged. Tea ordered, we dove into the important discussion of all things wedding and before we knew it the gorgeous food began to arrive.
(I dove into the sandwiches before even thinking about grabbing my camera. Ah, well, makes it more realistic, right? ;))
The beautiful bride-to-be, Sophie:
The gorgeous pastries (including one very appropriately topped with a ‘diamond’!)
Brough and Sam the Piano Man:
The service was unsurprisingly fantastic and they made it such a wonderful experience for us, even bringing out a special surprise desert:
We both absolutely loved the whole experience and left with our bellies and hearts full.
The only problem now is that we’ve raised the bar on our Afternoon Tea dates….and going back just isn’t an option. Next stop, the Ritz?
